The Selfie Generation

selfieI feel lucky to have been a teenager in the 90’s when social media was actually having to converse face to face with people.  I have teen-aged daughters and I’m watching this FacebookInstaChatSnapGram live from the front row.

And I have to say I feel sympathy for them.  My wife and I do an excellent job of monitoring their social media and we remain steadfast in being proactive with their lives.  But damn, this shit is amazing.

I can only imagine how my life would have been different if I had today’s technology while I was in high school:

*Every time I drank a beer, smoked some weed or said something shitty about someone, it would be right out on front street.

*It was so much easier to be able to just talk behind peoples’ backs without fear of being recorded.

*It was so much easier to pass out drunk without having to worry about becoming the next Vine video of a drunk asshole with dicks drawn on his cheeks in permanent marker.

*It was so much easier to egg someone’s house and root their yard up without fear of it being taped by Verizon home security cameras.

*It was so much easier to tell my parents I was going to my friend Tom’s house even though I was meeting a girl for sex and not have to worry about an app on my cell phone telling them exactly where I was.

*It was so much easier to apply for a job and not worry that the prospective employer already knew everything about me that I was trying to hide.

I think what saddens me the most is that as we become more technologically advanced we seem to become lazier, less intelligent and desensitized to everything that damages us.

Maybe I will post that last thought on Facebook and see how many “likes” I can get.

So Tired of Cougars

I apologize in advance if the following post makes me sound like I’m full of vitriol, hate and confusion about a certain female subculture; but that’s just how I feel:

Forgive me if this is redundant, but I’m damn sick of cougars.  Once or twice a month, the downtown area where I live has a public get together with street vendors, food, bands and other festival like shit.  It attracts a good sized crowd and I truly wanted to beat the hell out of about 99.9% of the people there.

Of all the annoying people, I have to say I was ready and willing to kill all the cougar moms and here’s why:

  • Ugh boots– I live in Florida, totally un-fucking-necessary, we turn our heat on maybe twice a year
  • Fake Tits– come on, isn’t silicon played out by now?  Can’t wait until you are 55, but your tits are 20, AWESOME
  • Too Tight Jeans– stop wearing your 14 year-old daughters jeans for christ sakes, enough already
  • Big Sunglasses– really? Jackie O is dead and her glasses died with her
  • The term “cougar– it’s not cute, or fancy, it really means you are a whore who is tired of her husband fucking his secretaries
  • Your Douche Bag Husbands– holy shit, easy with the diamond studded jeans, Ed Hardy shirts and Rolex watches, you are just breeders to them, put on the earth to raise their sons to become high school quarterbacks
  • Your wine drinking-stop being pussies and drink some liquor, it masks the insecurities better anyway
  • Your Soul– never mind, you don’t have one

Cougars, soccer moms, whatever you want to call them, need to be stopped.  They are destroying our ozone one pair of bad sunglasses at a time.  If women of any age consider themselves a cougar, they might as well just run around with a sign that says, “Fuck Me Please, It Will Make Me Feel Good About Myself.”

Am I the only one who feels this way?

My Old College Doesn’t Like Gay People

50+ Professors & Staff Resign From Christian University After Refusing to Sign Homosexuality Pledge

This truly makes me sad.  The college I graduated from in Rome, GA is in the news for some very backwards beliefs.

Yes, it’s a private college, I guess they call it university these days, but come on Shorter University wake up and smell the year, it’s 2012.

I graduated in 1999 and I remember back then several of the professors complained about having to sign a similar form like the one mentioned in the article above.  Many good professors left because they had to sign a piece of paper that said they would never drink alcohol.

Funny personal note; I took a final exam with my class and professor at the local Applebees bar one semester.  Yep, he left after that year to teach at another college where he was allowed to have a beer or drink wine at dinner.

By the way, I only went there because I received a full baseball scholarship and wanted a degree.  I didn’t give a shit that it was a Baptist school.

On a related note of hypocrisy, the music and theater department at Shorter was one of the most well known in the country.

But yeah, probably no way that music/theater students or their professors were gay.  No chance at all.

If you read the article, many of the comments below it are downright deplorable.

Fortunately for me, I’ve never donated a dime back to my college because it was generally run by bigots and obese, Southern Baptists.  What a sad institution to teach and encourage hate.
